Furniture Finds: Hayworth Bench

Hayworth Bench   $249.95   Pier 1 Imports  pier1.com

After watching Downton Abbey last night, I still can't get over all the beautiful and luxurious furniture that is on the show.

Although it's beautiful it probably would not work for everyone as well as the prices. Here is a glamorous yet functional everyday luxury piece that could work in a number of ways. It's classic yet youthful and would look great in a dorm room to a home office.

How would you use this piece?

Simple Changes to Reduce Clutter

Over the weekend, I spent some time decluttering. It's one of the easiest yet hardest things to do. Clutter has become such a problem for a lot of people now of days. Everyone seems to be holding on to stuff. There are those who absolutely love to declutter but for the rest of us, we have to make sure we take time to keep our things from getting out of control.

From a design point of view, clutter takes away from the style. How can you see that wonderful find you have on your shelf if it's surrounded by useless items. Your home doesn't have to look like a magazine or museum it should feel lived in but it doesn't have to be cluttered. You should feel at home while you're at home and not let the clutter be in control.

Some tips I like to follow:

- Keep your mail organized, the last thing you want to do is lose something important.

- Don't let magazines, books and newspapers pile up (a great tip for some is to go digital)

- As the old saying goes: "When in doubt, toss it out".

- Try to do a little bit at a time, so you don't want to get overwhelmed especially if you have a lot to do.

- Donate gently used items you no longer use to charity.

- Learn how to say no (to yourself) and to let things go. You don't need to buy everything or keep everything. If you did where would you put it all?

Five Clocks That Will Make The Time Fly By

Nelson Ball Clock   $318.75 (sales price starting at)  Design Within Reach  dwr.com

Today, let's watch time fly (pun intended) with clocks. I have found them to be both practical and artistic.  Here are a few clocks that caught my eye. I think they are great and add character to any
room. They come in various styles from Retro to Modern.

You know what's surprised me is that lately I have not seen a lot of clocks being used in many of the design magazines or in many home redecorations. With all of our electric gadgets we often don't feel the need for a clock. I can understand that, but as I said earlier I think clocks show character. Not to mention our children can learn how to tell time by using an actual clock.

Well these are my thoughts and I would like to know how you feel and what style you would go with.

How to use Pillow Covers to Update Old Pillows

Confetti Dot Decorator Crewel Euro Sham  $59.00 each  Pottery Barn Teen  pbteen.com

I absolutely love home décor which is why I wanted to start this blog. For my first post I wanted to talk about pillow covers. They are not going out of style are they? Because I think they're great. You can update any tired or worn out pillow and give it a new life. It is one of the quickest ways to make changes to your home, without breaking the bank.

Pillows are great accessories for your couch, bed, or practically anything. But don't over do it. You want your style to shine.
